Terms and Conditions
First Trimester Midwife
Last updated: July 2026
1. Agreement
By booking or using the services provided by First Trimester Midwife ("we", "us", "our"), you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions.
These Terms & Conditions apply to all services provided by First Trimester Midwife, including telehealth consultations, first trimester midwifery care, pregnancy assessment, prescribing (where within scope), requesting diagnostic investigations, referrals, education, care planning and clinical support.
2. Scope of Services
First Trimester Midwife provides comprehensive, evidence-based telehealth midwifery care during the first trimester of pregnancy.
Services are provided by an Endorsed Midwife registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) and are delivered within the professional scope of endorsed midwifery practice.
Care may include early pregnancy assessment, review of symptoms and concerns, requesting pathology and diagnostic imaging where clinically appropriate, prescribing medicines within legislative authority, reviewing investigation results, providing evidence-based information and education, referral to other healthcare providers or maternity services where required, care planning, follow-up consultations, and coordination of first trimester care.
First Trimester Midwife does not provide emergency medical care, labour or birth care, face-to-face consultations, or ongoing maternity care beyond the scope of the First Trimester Midwife service.
3. Telehealth Services
All consultations are conducted via secure telehealth using video conferencing or telephone.
Telehealth enables women throughout Australia to access timely first trimester midwifery care without attending a clinic in person.
While telehealth is appropriate for many aspects of early pregnancy care, it has limitations. The consulting Endorsed Midwife cannot perform a physical examination, measure clinical observations such as blood pressure, undertake an abdominal examination, or provide emergency assessment or treatment during a telehealth consultation.
Where an in-person assessment is clinically indicated, you may be advised to attend an appropriate healthcare provider, pathology collection centre, imaging provider, hospital or Emergency Department.
To participate in a telehealth consultation, you are responsible for ensuring you have access to a reliable internet or telephone connection, suitable technology where required, and a private environment in which your healthcare can be discussed confidentially. If technical difficulties occur, the consultation may continue by telephone or be rescheduled where appropriate.
4. Clinical Care
First Trimester Midwife provides comprehensive first trimester midwifery care within the professional scope of an Endorsed Midwife.
Consultations include clinical assessment, evidence-based information, education, requesting appropriate investigations, prescribing where authorised, referral when clinically indicated, care planning, and coordination of appropriate first trimester care.
Where a condition falls outside the professional scope of the consulting Endorsed Midwife, or requires additional assessment, emergency treatment or specialist management, referral will be made to the appropriate healthcare provider or maternity service.
5. Emergencies
First Trimester Midwife is not an emergency service.
If you experience heavy vaginal bleeding, severe abdominal or pelvic pain, collapse or fainting, symptoms suggestive of an ectopic pregnancy, difficulty breathing, severe allergic reaction, or any other medical emergency, you should immediately call 000 or attend your nearest Emergency Department.
Emails, SMS messages and other routine communications are monitored during business hours only and must never be used for urgent medical concerns.
6. Voluntary Participation
Participation in First Trimester Midwife services is voluntary.
You may discontinue your care at any time. Appointment cancellations and rescheduling are managed in accordance with our Cancellation Policy.
7. Privacy and Confidentiality
By accessing our services, you consent to the collection, use and storage of your personal and health information in accordance with the First Trimester Midwife Privacy Policy.
Every reasonable effort is made to ensure telehealth consultations are conducted securely and confidentially. To help protect your privacy, we recommend participating in your consultation from a quiet, private location, avoiding public Wi-Fi where possible, and ensuring others cannot overhear your consultation unless you wish them to be present.
Your information will be collected, stored and managed in accordance with applicable Australian privacy legislation.
8. Practitioner Availability
If a scheduled Endorsed Midwife is unavailable due to illness or unforeseen circumstances, First Trimester Midwife will make reasonable efforts to reschedule your appointment or, where available, offer an appointment with another suitably qualified Endorsed Midwife.
9. Medicare
Eligible consultations are bulk billed through Medicare.
By booking an appointment, you confirm that all information provided, including your Medicare details, is accurate and complete.
Eligibility for Medicare-funded services is determined by current Medicare requirements. Where Medicare eligibility requirements are not met, you will be advised before services are provided.
Appointments cancelled or not attended are managed in accordance with our Cancellation Policy.
10. Telehealth Consent
By booking and participating in a consultation with First Trimester Midwife, you acknowledge and agree that you understand the purpose of telehealth and how your consultation will be conducted.
You understand the benefits and limitations of telehealth and acknowledge that some concerns cannot be safely managed remotely and may require referral for in-person assessment, additional investigations or emergency medical care.
You consent to receiving healthcare via telehealth where clinically appropriate.
You consent to the collection, storage and management of your personal and health information in accordance with the First Trimester Midwife Privacy Policy.
You acknowledge that eligible consultations may be bulk billed through Medicare.
You understand that consent for telehealth may be withdrawn at any time. If telehealth is declined, First Trimester Midwife may be unable to provide the requested service, as consultations are delivered exclusively via telehealth.
11. Changes to these Terms & Conditions
These Terms & Conditions may be amended from time to time to reflect changes in legislation, professional standards, Medicare requirements or the services provided by First Trimester Midwife.
The most current version will always be available on our website. Continued use of our services constitutes acceptance of the current Terms & Conditions.
